Day 5: Lachen - Chopta Valley - Gurudongmar Lake - Lachung

The day commences early at 5 am with a packed breakfast, preparing for a delightful journey to Chopta Valley and Gurudongmar Lake (17200 ft / 70 kms / 4-5 hrs). This particular expedition is truly unforgettable. The day begins when it is still dark outside. As you ascend on your journey, the morning sunlight creates a breathtaking view of the snow-capped peaks, resembling mountains made of pure gold. Starting from Lachen, the first stop is Thangu (13000 Ft / 3963 Mts, 30 Kms / 02 to 2.5 Hrs from Lachen), which involves a steep climb. The only break is at Thangu, allowing for stretching and acclimatization. Here, you can enjoy tea, bread butter, and maggi at a family kitchen, available for direct payment. Sitting around the traditional earthen furnace, you can experience the mountain lifestyle firsthand.
Continuing the drive, you will reach the untouched and uninhabited Chopta Valley (13500 Ft / 4116 Mts, 4 Kms / 30 to 45 min from Thangu). Many tourists, who are not comfortable with the altitude, limit their tour to Chopta Valley, which is in close proximity to Tibet. The valley is abundant with Alpine vegetation.
From here to Gurudongmar, the terrain is mostly flat with mountains and army bunkers surrounding it. This high altitude desert has minimal vegetation and is characterized by its stony and dusty landscape. Your vehicle will navigate its way through, and it is easy to get lost in this area. Being a plateau, it remains cold and windy throughout the year. It is advised not to exert oneself too much as breathing becomes difficult at this altitude. In winter, Gurudongmar Lake freezes, except for one corner which is considered highly sacred. Apart from guarding the border, the Army Jawans are always ready to assist those in need.
Afterwards, you will be transferred to Lachung (8000 ft / 2439 mts, 60 kms/ 3-4 hrs). Overnight stay will be arranged at a hotel in Lachung.

Day 6: Yumthang Valley Excursion from Lachung to Gangtok

Embark on an early morning half-day excursion to the breathtaking Yumthang Valley, located at an altitude of 11,800 feet (3,598 meters). This scenic valley is situated 25 kilometers away from Lachung and is a must-visit for tourists in the region. The Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary, known for its vibrant colors, blooms from April to June, adding to the valley's beauty. With its majestic snow-capped peaks and grazing yaks, Yumthang Valley truly feels like a paradise in the Himalayas. Additionally, the valley is famous for its hot springs, although the water may not be very clean. Nevertheless, locals believe in the healing properties of these springs and often visit to soak and find relief. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Gangtok, which is located at an altitude of 5,412 feet (1,650 meters) and is approximately 124 kilometers away. The journey will take around 5 and a half to 6 and a half hours. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel in Gangtok.

Day 7: Leaving Gangtok and transferring to Njp Railway Station / IXB Airport

After enjoying breakfast, proceed to NJP Railway Station / (IXB) Bagdogra Airport (413 Ft / 126 Mts, 130 Km / 04 to 05 Hrs.) for your next journey. This marks the end of your tour, leaving you with cherished memories.
