Luang Prabang exemplifies the harmonious integration of traditional Lao architectural styles and European colonial constructions from the 19th and 20th centuries. Its exceptional and impeccably conserved townscape showcases the significant phase where these two cultural heritages merged. The city derives its name, Luang Prabang, from the Prabang Buddha statue, which was graciously presented by Cambodia.
