If you prefer a more relaxed and laid-back experience, treat yourself to a Wine Tour and indulge in the exquisite flavors of Central Otago's award-winning wines. Alternatively, visit Queenstown's Kiwi Birdlife Park to admire our native bird species. Our knowledgeable guide will be available to assist you in arranging all of your preferred optional activities. After a day filled with excitement, unwind and enjoy a peaceful evening cruise across Lake Wakatipu on the TSS Earnslaw, New Zealand's oldest steamship. Launched in 1912, the TSS Earnslaw is the largest and most magnificent vessel to have ever sailed on Lake Wakatipu. It is also the only coal-fired passenger-carrying vessel still in operation in the southern hemisphere. Indulge in a delicious gourmet BBQ Highlight Dinner at Walter Peak's Colonel's Homestead, followed by an entertaining after-dinner farm show that provides a glimpse into the fascinating world of high-country farm life. Day 12: Queenstown – Franz Josef
Today, you will bid farewell to the stunning alpine paradise of Queenstown and embark on a journey through Central Otago towards Westland. On your way out of Queenstown, make a stop at the meticulously restored gold mining settlement of Arrowtown. Strolling along the picturesque tree-lined streets, passing by charming 19th century wooden buildings, you will feel as if you have stepped into a movie set.
Continuing your journey, you will head to Cromwell, located next to the glistening waters of Lake Dunstan. Take a break at a local orchard and indulge in the delectable stone fruits that the town is known for. Today's itinerary is filled with breathtaking lakes. After Dunstan, you will venture further into Central Otago and marvel at the vibrant blue waters of Lake Hawea, followed by the enchanting shoreline of Lake Wanaka adorned with poplars and willows.
Following an ancient greenstone trail, you will cross Haast Pass, transitioning from the alpine landscapes of the Southern Lakes to the awe-inspiring rainforests of the wild West Coast. Take in the dramatic Thunder Creek Falls and the majestic sight of Mt Hooker, surrounded by vast glaciers on three sides. Our final destination for the day is the extraordinary Franz Josef Glacier, a network of rivers of ice. For an up-close experience, consider taking a helicopter flight that will hover over the snow-covered face and potentially land high up in the valley, allowing you to walk across the ice fall (subject to weather conditions, additional cost applies).

Day 13: Franz Josef – Christchurch
In the event of unfavorable weather conditions on Day 15, you will have another opportunity to fly up to the glaciers in the morning or explore the charming Franz Josef village. Afterwards, you will continue your journey to the picturesque drift-wood covered beaches of Hokitika. Hokitika not only embraces its coastal landscape but also thrives in its rich resources. During your visit, you will have the chance to explore a pounamu factory, where skilled carvers create exquisite pieces of jewelry and art from native greenstone or jade. According to Maori tradition, it is considered bad luck to purchase pounamu for oneself, so if you desire a trinket, ensure you have someone with you to make the purchase. From Hokitika, you will travel inland to the quaint settlement of Arthur's Pass. Here, you will embark on the TranzAlpine train, a remarkable journey that has been captivating travelers since 1914. Renowned as one of the world's most scenic train trips, the TranzAlpine train takes you through tunnels, over viaducts, and offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, icy rivers, beech forests, gorges, and river valleys. In the evening, join your AAT Kings Travel Director, Driver, and newfound friends for a Farewell Dinner.
Day 14: Farewell From Christchurch
Your New Zealand holiday comes to an end this morning after breakfast. You have the flexibility to depart at any time today, and arrangements will be made to transfer you to Christchurch Airport for your onward flight.
