Day Wise Itinerary: Day 01: Arrival Colombo and transfer to Kandy with Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage Upon your arrival at Colombo International Airport, our representatives will be there to warmly welcome you and arrange your transfer to Kandy. As we make our way to Kandy, we will make a brief stop at the renowned Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, a beloved attraction in Sri Lanka. Here, you will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the 65 captive elephants who have been rescued from various circumstances. Some of these gentle giants were orphaned as babies, while others are elderly matriarchs who can no longer survive in the wild, or adults that have endured unethical treatment during their time in captivity. Located approximately 90km from Colombo, after enjoying your time with the elephants, we will proceed to Kandy and check you into your hotel, allowing you to rest for the night. Day 02: Transfer from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya - Visit Bhakta Hanuman Temple Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel in Kandy before we embark on our journey to Nuwara Eliya. Along the way, we will make a stop at the renowned Sri Bhaktha Hanuman Temple, a significant Hanuman temple in Sri Lanka. Situated atop a stunning mountain in Ramboda, this temple was constructed in 1999 and is believed to be the place where Hanuman rested while searching for Sita Devi. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Sita Tear Pond, a pond said to have been formed by Sita's tears. Our next stop will be the Tea Factory and Tea Plantations, where you can explore the plantations and witness the fascinating process of brewing Ceylon Tea.
We will also venture into the jungle to visit the captivating Ramboda Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. With its three-tiered cascades, natural pool, and spa center, it is truly a sight to behold. For the best view of the waterfall, make sure to visit the base of the Ramboda Falls. Consider staying at the nearby Ramboda Hotel to fully immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery. Finally, we will make our way to your hotel in Nuwara Eliya, where you will spend the night.
Day 03: Exploring Nuwara Eliya
Start your day with a delicious breakfast before we embark on our sightseeing adventure. Our first stop is the Sita Amman Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Princess Sita from the epic Ramayana. Legend has it that Sita was rescued by Rama 5000 years ago, and the temple was built in her honor. Visitors are encouraged to dress modestly when visiting this sacred site.
Just a short distance away lies the Hakgala Gardens, which actually consists of five botanical gardens in one.
These include the Royal Botanical Garden, Hakgala Botanical Garden, Henarathgoda Botanical Garden, Mirijjawila Botanical Garden, and Seetawaka Botanical Garden. Originally used for tea cultivation and Cinchona, this is the largest garden in Sri Lanka where you can admire a variety of tropical and sub-tropical plants. According to legend, the Hakgala Gardens were gifted by Ravana to Sita as an Ashok Vatika. This area is known as Sita Eliya and is home to a Temple of the Goddess Sita.
Lastly, we cannot miss out on Victoria Park, a public park located near Nuwara Eliya. Originally a research field for the Hakgala Botanical Garden, this park is now a beautiful garden filled with a wide array of flowers. It was renamed Victoria Park in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The natural lakes created by the River Nanu Oya add to the charm of this picturesque location.
Day 04: Travel from Nuwara Eliya to Bentota with Turtle Hatchery & Madu River Tour
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel in Nuwara Eliya before we check-out. Today, we will be heading to Bentota. Upon arrival, proceed to the hotel for check-in. After settling in, take some time to relax before we embark on the Madu River excursion.
Experience the Boat Safari at Madu River, a popular attraction that offers stunning views of the expansive Madu Ganga. Navigate through the mangrove forest and witness the diverse wildlife of Madu River, which includes 19 endemic species. With 64 islands, this destination is a paradise for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers. Keep an eye out for rare bird species, reptiles, and traditional Stilt Fishermen who earn their living through unique fishing methods.
Next, visit the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project for a fascinating turtle hatching experience.
Established in 1981 by the Wildlife Protection Society, this project is renowned for its efforts in protecting turtles. Learn about the conservation of five turtle species, interact with these magnificent creatures, and observe the newborn turtles in their tanks.
After the tour, return to the hotel in Bentota for an overnight stay.
Day 05: Transfer from Bentota to Colombo with City Tour
Start your day with breakfast and check-out from your hotel in Bentota. Get ready to head to Colombo for an exciting city tour. Upon arrival, we will kick off our exploration with a visit to the iconic Independence Square in the Cinnamon Gardens area. This square is home to the Independence Memorial Museum, which commemorates Sri Lanka's independence in 1948. The museum's main hall is a stunning architectural marvel, adorned with intricately carved lion statues, pillars, and columns featuring traditional Sri Lankan designs. Take some time to relax by the fountains and enjoy the lush greenery before exploring the arcade within the colonial government buildings. Don't forget to ensure that your car itinerary includes a stop at this must-see attraction.
Next, make your way to the impressive World Trade Centre Towers in Colombo. These 39-storey twin towers were inaugurated in 1997 and have since become a hub for financial and business activities in the country. Standing at 152m tall, the towers offer a range of facilities including entertainment venues, restaurants, and shops. Take the opportunity to explore the various stores and services available in the towers. A visit to this landmark is highly recommended, so be sure to include it in your car itinerary.
The Galle Face Green is a renowned ocean-side park and is widely recognized as Colombo's largest seaside promenade. Visitors flock to this park to witness the breathtaking sunset views. Originally planned in 1850 by Governor Sir Henry George Ward, it was initially a golf course that also served as a horse racing track. Over the years, various rumors have circulated about its purpose, with some suggesting it was intended for the enjoyment of "fair ladies" during pleasant afternoons, while others claim it was a strategic location for Dutch cannons against Portuguese invasions. Despite the speculations, the park's stunning views and lush greenery make it a must-visit destination. When planning your car itineraries, be sure to include an extended stop at the promenade to fully appreciate its beauty.
Our tour also includes a visit to Viharamahadevi Park, one of the largest parks in the city. Originally known as Victoria Park, it was designed and constructed by the British prior to Sri Lanka's Independence. The park used to host events for the British Army before World War II, as well as the 17th Brigade of the Australian Army and several cricket matches. As you enter the park, you will be greeted by a Buddha statue, and further exploration will reveal water fountains where you can relax. The park also features a play area and a zoo, providing an opportunity for quality time with your children. Additionally, there is a small aquarium near the park's museum, showcasing rare local fish species.
Just 4km outside of Colombo lies the Old Parliament Building, a famous historical landmark. Established in 1930 as the Parliament, it was later relocated to Jayawardenapura Kotte in 1983. Today, the baroque-style building with its faded paint serves as the Presidential Secretariat. The surrounding garden is adorned with bronze statues of significant figures from Sri Lanka's colonial history.
After the tour, we will proceed to the hotel for check-in, where you will spend the night in Colombo.
Day 06: Transfer to Aiport for Departure
On Day 06, after enjoying your breakfast at the hotel, we will proceed with the check-out process. You will then have the entire day to yourself until it's time for your departure. Our dedicated team will ensure that you reach the airport on time as per the schedule, so you can catch your flight back home. Tour Ends!
