Day 01: Paro Airport – Thimphu(Distance: 65 kms. / Driving Time: 2 hrs. / Altitude of Thimphu: 2350 mts.)
On Day 01, upon your arrival at Paro Airport, you will be greeted and subsequently transferred to Thimphu, which is located 65 kilometers away and has a driving duration of approximately 2 hours. Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, is situated at an altitude of 2,350 meters (7,710 feet). After checking into your hotel upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to explore the town of Thimphu on foot in the evening. You will then spend the night in Thimphu.
Day 02 : Thimphu Local Sightseeing
On the second day, following breakfast, you will embark on a sightseeing tour of Thimphu. The first stop is the National Folk Heritage Museum, also referred to as PhelcheyToenkhyim, which is housed in a traditional 19th-century Bhutanese residence constructed from rammed mud and timber. Next, animal enthusiasts will appreciate a visit to the Motithang Takin Preserve, originally established as a small zoo but now serving as a sanctuary for the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal.
The tour continues to the Buddha Dordenma Statue, a monumental golden Buddha located on a hill, which overlooks the city and contains 125,000 smaller Buddha statues within its gilded meditation hall, surpassing the local population of 100,000. On Day 03, the journey commences from Thimphu to Punakha, with a notable stop at Dochu-La Pass, situated at an altitude of 3150 meters. This scenic pass, located between Thimphu and Punakha, offers breathtaking views of the Eastern Himalayas. The area is adorned with 108 stupas, and during the winter months, it is blanketed in snow, enhancing its picturesque beauty. The total distance covered is 77 kilometers, with an estimated driving time of three hours, and Punakha itself is located at an altitude of 1310 meters.
Punakha Dzong is renowned as the most stunning Dzong, situated at the confluence of two rivers, Pho Chu (male) and Mo Chu (female), in Punakha. Mo Chu is particularly favored by first-time visitors, children, and the elderly. Constructed in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it served as the governmental seat for many years until the reign of the second king. The Dzong was originally named Druk Pungthang Dechen Phodrang, which translates to ‘Palace of Great Happiness.’ Even today, Punakha remains the winter residence of the Je-Khenpo, and it was here that King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck convened the inaugural National Assembly in 1952.
Following a visit to the Punakha Dzong, one can embark on a brief excursion to Chhimi Lhakhang, also referred to as ‘The Temple of Fertility,’ which was established by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, known as ‘The Divine Mad Man.’ Visitors to Punakha Dzong will not only be captivated by the exquisite Bhutanese architecture but will also have the chance to delve into the rich sacred history of this ancient site. Day 04:Bhumthang to Punakha ViaGangtey (Phobjikha Valley) (Distance: 230 kms. One way / Driving Time: 7-8 hrs.)
On Day 04, the journey commences from Bhumthang to Punakha, passing through the scenic Gangtey in the Phobjikha Valley, covering a distance of 230 kilometers, which typically takes between 7 to 8 hours of driving. Following breakfast, guests will check out from the hotel and embark on their transfer to Punakha. En route, a visit to Gangtey, situated at an elevation of 9,840 feet, is planned.
Here, travelers will have the opportunity to explore Gangtey Gompha, the sole Nyingmapa monastery in western Bhutan, founded in the 17th century. Subsequently, the itinerary includes a visit to the Phobjikha Valley, renowned for its stunning glacial landscapes and as the winter habitat for the endangered Black Necked Cranes that migrate from the arid regions of Tibet. In the late afternoon, the journey continues towards Punakha, where guests will check into their hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 05: Punakha/Wangdue – Paro(Distance: 140 kms. / Driving Time: 4 hrs. / Altitude of Paro: 2280 mts)
On the fifth day, travel from Punakha/Wangdue to Paro, covering a distance of 140 kilometers, which will take approximately four hours. Paro is situated at an altitude of 2,280 meters (7,483 feet). After enjoying breakfast, commence your journey to Paro, making a stop at Lamperi to explore the Royal Botanical Park. This park is renowned for its diverse range of flora and fauna, including numerous endangered species.
Additionally, visit the Chime Lhakhang, a Buddhist monastery located in the Punakha District of Bhutan, near Lobesa. This monastery, founded in 1499 by the Drukpa Kagyu lama Ngawang Chogyal, the 14th abbot of Ralung Monastery, is perched on a small hill. Upon arrival in Paro, check in at your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 06:Paro Local Sightseeing

Situated approximately 10 kilometers north of Paro town at an elevation of 3,120 meters, Taktsang Lhakhang requires visitors to embark on a trek lasting about 2 to 3 hours through picturesque, shaded pine forests. Day 08: Paro Airport Departure
