Day Wise Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Colombo and Journey to Kandy with a Visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

Upon your arrival at Colombo International Airport, our dedicated representatives will be there to warmly welcome you and facilitate your transfer to the enchanting city of Kandy. En route, we will pause at the renowned Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a beloved destination for both tourists and locals alike. Here, you will have the opportunity to engage with the 65 elephants, each with their own unique story of rescue. Some of these gentle giants were orphaned as infants, while others are elderly matriarchs unable to thrive in the wild, or adults who have endured mistreatment in captivity. Located approximately 90 kilometers from Colombo, this visit promises a delightful experience with these magnificent creatures. After your memorable time at the orphanage, we will continue our journey to Kandy, where you will check in to your hotel and enjoy a restful evening.

Day 2: Kandy City Exploration

Begin your day with a delightful breakfast at the hotel. Today, we embark on an enchanting tour of Kandy, immersing ourselves in the splendor this remarkable city has to offer. Our journey will take us along Upper Lake Road, where breathtaking views of Kandy Lake await. Known as Kiri Muhuda, or the Sea of Milk, this picturesque lake was artificially created by the last king of Kandy, King Sri Wickrama, in 1807. Nestled beside the revered Temple of the Tooth Relic, this protected body of water has been gradually diminishing over the years, with fishing activities prohibited.

As we continue, you will relish the opportunity to explore the Market Crafts Centre, where local artisans showcase their exquisite handmade creations. Many of these unique pieces make for perfect souvenirs to cherish your visit.

Next, we will visit the Gem Museum, home to an extraordinary collection of Sri Lankan gems. Here, you will gain insights into the geology of Sri Lanka and the precious stones that can be found within its borders. Should you wish to take a piece of this beauty home, the shop offers an array of Sri Lankan Ceylon Sapphires, Pearls, and even Diamonds for purchase.

Our final stop will be the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, a haven for nature enthusiasts located approximately 5.5 km west of Kandy. This stunning garden boasts an impressive collection of Giant Bamboos from Burma, a century-old Javan fig tree, Cannonball trees, double coconut palms, and a diverse array of beautiful palms and flora, many of which are endemic to the region. Visitors often enjoy picnics with their own packed lunches or savor a leisurely meal at the cafeteria, which serves delightful local dishes.

One of the most remarkable attractions in Kandy is undoubtedly the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a revered pilgrimage destination for Buddhists globally. Known locally as Dalada Maligawa, this sacred temple houses the revered tooth relic of Buddha, although it remains inaccessible for public viewing. However, visitors can admire the stunning golden casket, shaped like a stupa, which is displayed for public viewing twice daily. Take the time to wander the grounds and discover the smaller temples and museums that enrich this spiritual site. It is essential to dress modestly, covering your legs and shoulders, and to remove your shoes before entering the temple.

In the evening, consider attending the Kandy Cultural Show at the Kandy Lake Club, where you will be treated to an exhilarating performance by skilled artists. This vibrant showcase features traditional dances, music, and acrobatics, with performers adorned in the local attire of Kandy. The show captures the essence of Kandy’s beauty, highlighted by colorful birds and animals, and includes thrilling moments as artists bravely walk across burning coals.

After an enchanting day, we will return to the hotel for your overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 3: Journey from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya with Scenic Exploration

Begin your day with a delightful breakfast at your hotel in Kandy before we embark on our journey to Nuwara Eliya. This picturesque drive will take approximately five hours. Upon our arrival, we will assist you with the check-in process at your hotel, after which we will set off to explore the enchanting surroundings.

Our first stop will be the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course, a stunning 18-hole club enveloped by majestic cypress trees and lush eucalyptus, with tea plantations adorning the hills above. Established by the British, this course was designed as a retreat and entertainment venue, making it one of Asia’s oldest tea plantations. Here, you can indulge in a luxurious golfing experience, complete with lessons for those eager to learn the sport.

Next, we will visit Victoria Park, a charming public garden adjacent to Nuwara Eliya, which was once the research site for the Hakgala Botanical Garden. This exquisite garden is home to a diverse array of flowers and was renamed in 1897 in honor of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The park features serene lakes formed by the River Nanu Oya, enhancing its natural beauty.

In the heart of Nuwara Eliya lies Gregory Lake, an artificial lake created in 1873 during the tenure of British Governor William Gregory. This scenic lake park is a popular spot for both tourists and locals, perfect for leisurely picnics or enjoying a ride on swan boats and jet skis.

Lastly, we will take a moment to visit Sita Eliya, a revered temple where the footprints of Lord Hanuman can be seen, as he searched for Sita in the Ashok Vatika. This temple, one of the few dedicated to Sita, features a small stream believed to be where she bathed. Please remember to dress modestly while visiting this sacred site.

Our next destination is the enchanting Pedro Tea Estate, a picturesque haven nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Sri Lanka. Just a mere 3.5 kilometers from Nuwara Eliya, this estate offers an idyllic setting for a leisurely stroll while exploring its lush surroundings. Renowned for its cultivation and processing of Ceylon tea, a cherished local delicacy, visitors can indulge in the exquisite flavors available for purchase. The estate proudly upholds 19th-century processing methods, ensuring an authentic experience. Immerse yourself in the stunning vistas, the invigorating scent of tea, and the refreshing breeze.

After our visit, we will return to our hotel in Nuwara Eliya, where we will enjoy a restful night.

The Boat Safari on the Madu River is a highlight of the day, offering breathtaking views of the expansive Madu Ganga. This serene journey through the mangrove forest allows you to immerse yourself in the rich biodiversity of the river, home to 19 endemic species. With 64 islands dotting the landscape, it is a paradise for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers alike. Keep your eyes peeled for rare bird species and reptiles that inhabit this unique ecosystem. You may also witness traditional fishermen practicing the art of Stilt Fishing, a method where they patiently await bites from fish while perched on a crossbar anchored to the sea floor.

Next, we will visit the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project, renowned for its turtle hatching efforts. Established in 1981 by the Wildlife Protection Society, this site is one of the premier locations for observing turtles laying their eggs. The project nurtures newborn turtles in spacious tanks filled with nutritious food and a clean environment for a few days before their nighttime release into the wild, ensuring their best chance of survival.

The conservation center cares for five different species of these magnificent yet endangered turtles. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about these creatures and even interact with them, gently holding the tiny hatchlings in their palms and observing them in their tanks.

After our enriching experiences, we will return to the hotel for a restful overnight stay in Bentota.

Day 5: Enchanting Excursion to Mirissa with Whale Watching

Prepare for an exhilarating day as we embark on a journey to the southern seas for an unforgettable whale watching experience in Mirissa.
